Flash Fiction Awards

I debated whether or not to write this post. In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems wrong to celebrate anything. Yet, given all the grim news, perhaps it’s more important than ever to celebrate the little victories and rays of sunlight that permeate our lives.

So, in that spirit, I wanted to share that I recently placed in two flash fiction contests. The first was Reading Works’ Short Story Contest, where I won “Best of Category” for my Huck Finn’s mother entry. I was honored to support this great nonprofit, which helps promote adult literacy. You can read my entry and the other winning ones here: https://www.reading-works.org/short-short-story-writing-contest.html.

I also placed third in the Title Wave Books Revised Flash Fiction Contest. My entry was the short story “The Montana,” which was inspired by a work trip I took to Haiti a few years after the earthquake there. The story is about recovering from a devastating disaster.

Thank you to the judges and contestants! There were some great entries in these competitions and I was honored to have my work celebrated alongside theirs.
